Amazing Grace of Prayer

I have been making more of an effort this month of reading about and actually praying more. Praying more often, more deliberately, more focused.

It has been amazing to me, although it shouldn't, how God has answered and given me His peace that passes understanding.

I have been struggling lately with some personal things.  Yesterday, while out with Bri, I was praying while he ran into a store for something.  I prayed for a specific thing to happen in the next few days.  Not 30 minutes later it happened!  It was nothing less than a God thing.  I told my friend about it later and she agreed.

Each morning I read a couple devotionals during my quiet time. Jesus Calling and My Utmost for His Highest.  It amazes me how often God uses those to encourage and reinforce what I am going through at that particular time.  Today was no exception.

Today's reading in My Utmost was about overcoming depression. The second half reads:

"When the Spirit of God comes He does not give us visions, He tells us to do the most ordinary things conceivable.  Depression is apt to turn us away from the ordinary commonplace things of God's creation, but whenever God comes, the inspiration is to do the most natural simple things- things we would never have imagined God was in, and as we do them we find He is there. The inspiration which comes to us in this way is an initiative against depression; we have to do the next thing and do it in the inspiration of God.  If we do a thing in order to overcome depression, we deepen the depression; but if the Spirit of God makes us feel intuitively that we must do the thing, and we do it, the depression is gone.  Immediately we arise and obey, we enter on a higher plane of life."

I encountered this last night.  I knew I needed prayer. Whenever God is working on me about doing something I get a heaviness in my chest. Similar to nervousness but different.  I had that heaviness all during church service. After church I asked the pastor to pray for me. He and his wife took me into the office and prayed over me and I felt so much lighter when I left. Placing my burden at Christ's feet.

Random thoughts

So now I am bored with the food log.  Who really cares anyway?

Bri left this morning to go look at sailboats in New Bern.  I am sure we will be new owners sooner rather than later.  He needs an outlet.

Tonight is the Valentines Banquet fund raiser at church.  All four boys will be helping as waiters or whatever else is needed.  They have been learning to tie ties this morning.  I just need to iron their dress clothes and they will be four sharp looking guys!

I am missing FB.  Still have two weeks to go on my break.  It has been a good break. Really shown me how much more I can accomplish in a day with out checking it so much.  But I haven't cheated.  Bri will go on a check it, so people probably think I am cheating, but I'm not.

Better get busy with my work.

Have a great day!

Food Log 2-12-13

Mondays sure do come fast.  We had a normal day of school. It was drizzly out all day.  I've been thinking of something special to do for some friends. They do so much for us. I decided to design and make a wall quilt with the help of Jacob. I am good with coming up with ideas and he transfers those ideas onto graph paper so I can make it a reality.  We'll see what happens. If it turns out half as good as in my mind, I'll be happy.

Here is what I ate yesterday:

 coffee
grits
egg
toast
cup of ramon beef soup
banana
kale chips
salad
stuffed shells
dessert crossant
tea

Last night was the ladies night out at church. Good dinner and fellowship.

Have a great day.

Weekend Food Log 2-8-10-13

We had a fairly busy weekend. Friday was home school co-op. I am there from a little after 9am until 3pm.  Our friend from church, Nana, picks up the boys at 12:30 and they go have lunch and then work some where or come back to the house to hang out.

Here is Friday's food log:

hash browns
egg
toast
coffee
apple
salad
banana
water
whopper
sm fries
dr. pepper
frozen yogurt

Saturday we got up and had breakfast. Then we piled into the van and headed to Greenville on a mission.
Nana loves to ride bikes with the boys, but has a hard time getting off the bike because of her hip. So we were off to find a cruiser with a low swoop. Bri had heard about a used bike place with all styles so off we went. We found the place, but they didn't have what we were after. Stopped at a pawn shop, no luck. Wal-mart and Toys R Us were a bust as well. So we picked up a pizza and had lunch and came back to K town.

Stopped at a pawn shop and hit pay dirt! We went to wal mart to compare to the one she had thought about a week before and decided the pawn shop one was much better and a better price!  So back we went, bought it, came home and cleaned it up and took it for a test ride.

We'll keep it here for her because there isn't a good place for her to ride where she lives. I took a picture of it to show her that evening when we went over for dinner.

Here is Saturday's log:
Bacon,egg, and cheese biscuit
coffee
1 bread stick
1 slice cheese pizza
pepsi
banana
shrimp stew
water
frozen fruit bar

Sunday morning I got up and fixed breakfast, then we all got cleaned up for church. Came home and pulled out leftovers for lunch. For Christmas, Nathan had gotten a set of walkie talkies. Well, one has gone missing. We turned the house, his room, the toy closet and everywhere else we could think off upside down and inside out looking for it. Things got cleaned and straightened along the way, but no walkie talkie.

The boys played with the neighbor kids and Bri and I went for a bike ride. Came back home and I started making Chinese for dinner.  Nana came by to try out her bike. She loves it! Had a bite to eat with us and we headed to church.

Sunday's food log:
oatmeal muffin
scrambled eggs with potato, cheese and sausage
orange juice
coffee
Philly cheese steak ftuffed pepper
water
sweet and sour chicken
peanut butter chicken
egg rolls
fried rice
water

Have a great day!

Today, Friday, I woke up not feeling hungry at all!  This is day three of taking the Raspberry Keytones and I think it is starting to really get in my system and do its thing. I am not as snacky as usual, my energy is up, and I am waking up feeling more rested!

I am trying these for a month to see how I do. If I continue to see results, I'll get Bri to jump on the wagon with me.

Have a great day!

What's New?

Not much is new around here.

I am taking the month of February off of Facebook. I was checking it too often during the day and not focusing on what I needed to be focusing on. I've gotta say, today is day 6 and I'm not missing it as much as I thought I would. Too busy doing all the stuff I should have been doing all along. :)

I am focusing more on prayer, the boys schooling, cleaning the house, and slowly but surly cooking a bit healthier. I feel I am calmer during the day and haven't "lost it" as much as I used too.

The other night I was talking with a friend at church and she told me about a suppliment she has been taking called Raspberry Keytones. It is supposed to help burn fat. Another lady at church has gone down two pant sizes since Christmas. So I told another friend about it and we each picked up a bottle at Wal-Mart yesterday and are going to try it for a month together and see what happens. The only side effect K has had is some insomnia from the extra caffine. She is starting to take hers earlier and seeing if that helps. I took my first two at 6:20 this morning. I don't own a scale, but will be able to tell any differences buy the way my jeans fit.

Onto eating healthier. I discovered roasting cauliflower is easy and delicious! You just cut up a head of cauliflower into bite sized pieces place in a large bowl, toss with just enough olive oil to coat, season with salt and pepper then transfer to a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 425* for ten minutes, stir, bake ten minutes more until golden on top. If desired, sprinkle with some grated parmesan cheese.

I thought I'd start keeping a food journal on here. I know I've tried that before and quit after a few days. That may be the case again, but I'm still going to do it for however long I can. so tomorrow I'll post every thing that went in my mouth today. I know you'll be sitting on the edge of your seat in antisipation. Have a great rest of the day!
